Common FiveM® Issues Guide

A guide to fixing the most common FiveM® issues


This covers some of the common issues you may encounter with the FiveM® client.


Common Problems

First, check the official FiveM® docs to see if your issue is mentioned there.

If you don't see your issue, begin at the start of this document, and scroll through each of the issues to find the error you are experiencing.


This is not an issue with FiveM®, you will have to resolve this issue yourself.

Your anti-virus is preventing FiveM® from running #

Description: Often an anti-virus will detect FiveM® as a false-positive.

FiveM is an open-source project and does not contain malicious code. It often triggers anti-viruses, due to how it initializes GTA V.

Symptoms:

  • The FiveM® installer is freezing or closing without notice

  • Your anti-virus is blocking the FiveM® download

  • Your anti-virus is reporting FiveM.exe as a virus

  • FiveM uninstalls itself after installing it

  • Stuck on "We're getting there and it will be worth the wait"

  • Moving of [file].exe failed (err = 32)

Solutions:



This is not an issue with FiveM®, you will have to resolve this issue yourself.

Unable to find SteamID, please relaunch FiveM #

Description: Your Steam client is not running

The server you are connecting to requires a Steam ID, but the Steam service is not running on your computer.

Symptoms:

  • Unable to find SteamID, please relaunch FiveM® with steam open or restart FiveM® & Steam if steam is already open

  • Steam services may be temporarily unavailable, check the status and try again later

  • The server does not have a properly configured steam_webApiKey value in it's configuration.

Solutions:

  1. For Players:
    • Close all running FiveM® processes
    • Start Steam, and wait for it to start fully
    • Relaunch FiveM, and retry connecting to the server
    • FiveM should be able to read your Steam identifiers properly now

  2. For Server Owners:
    • Ensure that you've set a proper API key in your server.cfg, for thesteam_webApiKey value.
    • For more information, view the official FiveM® guide on setting up a server, and search for "Steam"



This is not an issue with FiveM®, you will have to resolve this issue yourself.

Could not load CitizenGame.dll or [name].dll #

Description: An anti-virus has removed or is blocking FiveM® game files, and cannot launch properly

This error happens when an anti-virus client has removed critical FiveM game files, or they have become corrupted.
The FiveM® client is self-repairing, but you must stop any anti-virus applications from removing your game files.

Symptoms:

  • Could not load CitizenGame.dll

  • Could not load [name].dll

  • Error loading component [name].dll

Solutions:

  • Temporarily disable your anti-virus software

  • Repair your FiveM® Install
    1. Ensure all FiveM® processes are closed. You can verify this with the Windows® Task Manager
    2. Delete the %localappdata%/FiveM/FiveM Application Data/caches.xml file
    3. Try to launch the FiveM® client again



This is not an issue with FiveM®, you will have to resolve this issue yourself.

Crashes involving d3d11.dll #

Description: A graphics mod is crashing your game

If you are experiencing crashes with d3d11.dll, removing it will get you playing FiveM® again. d3d11.dll is not a file included with GTA V® or FiveM®, but a file included in many graphics mods.

Symptoms:

  • Crashes mentioning:
    • d3d11.dll
    • d3d11.dll?EnsureChildDevice@...

Solutions:

  • Close any FiveM® processes

  • Locate your FiveM® directory:
    Rockstar:C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V
    Steam:C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\commonapps\Grand Theft Auto V
    Epic:C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\GTA V\

  • Remove any of the following files from your GTA V® directory:
    • d3d11.dll
    • d3dcompiler_46e.dll

  • Re-verify your game through the Rockstar Launcher, Steam, or Epic



This is an issue with your network. The issue could be either your network, the server's network, or a third-party service being unavailable. This is not an issue with FiveM®.

Timed out - CURL error code 28 (Timeout was reached) #

Description: You were unable to connect to the server

Causes:

  • If you're a player:
    • The server is unavailable
    • The server has changed IP addresses
    • You are using an old cfx.re URL
    • The IP or host you entered was an incorrect server address

  • If you're a server owner:
    • Your server is unavailable
    • Your server is not port forwarded properly
    • Your server is not allowed through your firewall

Solutions:

  • For players:
    • Try clearing your Windows DNS:
      • Press WIN+X, then press I
      • Enter ipconfig /flushdns
      • Retry connecting to the FiveM® server
    • If that doesn't work, you should contact the server owners to let them know you're unable to connect.

  • For server owners:
    • Make sure that FXServer is running
    • Make sure FXServer is not blocked by a firewall or router
    • Make sure your server has internet access
    • Contact your server host if your networking issues continue

This is an issue with your network. The issue could be either your network, the server's network, or a third-party service being unavailable. This is not an issue with FiveM®.

Timed out while waiting for ROS/MTL to clear launch #

Description: Your computer is failing to connect to Rockstar Online services

Your computer is not able to connect to Rockstar Online Services properly. In some countries, Rockstar Online services are unavailable.


Symptoms:

  • Timed out while waiting for ROS/MTL to clear launch. Please check your system for third-party software (antivirus, etc.) that might be interfering with ROS.

Solutions:



Failed to call inflate() for streaming file [name].ytd #

Description: The named server resource file is invalid or corrupted.

Symptoms:

  • Failed to call inflate() for streaming file ...

  • gta-streaming-five.dll+6F5CB

An example of an inflate() error

Solutions:

  • For players:
    • Ask the server owner to remove or fix the resource file mentioned in the crash.
    • Providing a screenshot of the crash to them will help fix the issue.

  • For server owners:
    • Try replacing the affected asset with its original, and restart the server
    • Remove the asset file, and restart the server



This is an issue with a specific server. Please contact the server host to fix this issue.

Invalid fixup, address is neither virtual nor physical #

Description: A server resource is invalid

Symptoms:

  • Invalid fixup, address is neither virtual nor physical (in [name].yft)

  • Invalid fixup, address is neither virtual nor physical (in [name].ymap)

Solutions:

  • Ask the server owner to remove the invalid resource mentioned in the error:
    • Providing a screenshot will help them find the issue.



Unless you are using Canary for development, then you will want to switch back to the Release channel.

Ensure You Are Not Using Canary #

Description: Using the canary version for regular play can cause unexpected crashes on servers.

If you are experiencing irregular, unexplained crashes without any modification to your client files, or server files — then you may have the Canary version selected.

Method 1: The FiveM® client works

  1. Step 1: Open the FiveM® client, and click on the gear icon in the top right.

  2. Step 2: Make sure that the Release channel is selected.
    The release channel option is located under "Game" on the settings page.

Method 2: FiveM® will not launch

  1. Close the FiveM® client

  2. Open the CitizenFX.ini file.  You can find it in
    %localappdata%/FiveM/FiveM Application Data/

  3. If you see a line that contains UpdateChannel=canary, remove it.

  4. Start the FiveM® client again
